

SUHAR: Nama Water Services has completed 67 per cent of the third phase of its wastewater network expansion in the Wilayat of Suhar, a RO 19.00 million infrastructure project aimed at strengthening wastewater services, supporting urban growth and improving environmental sustainability in North Al Batinah Governorate.
The project forms part of the utility's strategy to build a more efficient, resilient and sustainable wastewater system capable of meeting future development needs while improving the quality of life and enhancing the readiness of infrastructure in line with Oman Vision 2040.
The expansion covers Al Hambar, Ghail Al Shabul, Al Tarif, Al Waqiba, Al Sabara, Al Shizaw and Al Hazeera. Once completed, it will improve wastewater collection and treatment, increase the reliability of the network and support continued residential, commercial and economic development in Sohar.
Nama said the project has generated around RO 1.50 million in local added value through the participation of local companies and the utilisation of Omani expertise, reflecting its commitment to strengthening local content and maximising the economic benefits of infrastructure investment.
Engineer Mohammed bin Hareb al Makhmari, General Manager of Sector Projects Implementation in North Al Batinah Governorate, described the development as one of Nama's strategic investments to improve infrastructure readiness and deliver more efficient, flexible and sustainable wastewater services.
He said investment in such projects extends beyond expanding operational assets to improving quality of life, promoting environmental sustainability and preparing cities to accommodate future development, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
Project Manager Engineer Mohammed al Muqbali said construction is progressing according to the approved schedule while maintaining international quality and safety standards. The project comprises an integrated wastewater system including sewage networks, pumping stations, vacuum systems and the upgrading of existing operational assets to improve system reliability and operational efficiency.
The first phase includes the construction of 40 kilometres of sewage pipelines, a 3-kilometre vacuum network, 3 kilometres of pumping lines, the Al Tarif pumping station, the Ghail Al Shabul lift station, completion of the Al Hambar (1) pumping station, vacuum stations at Al Hazeera and Al Shizaw, and the upgrading of several existing pumping stations. This phase is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2027.
The second phase will focus on household connections, linking 3,432 residential, commercial and government units to the wastewater network connected to the expanded treatment plant. This phase is scheduled for completion during the second quarter of 2028.
Al Muqbali said the project would significantly improve the operational reliability and efficiency of the wastewater system while delivering long-term environmental and economic benefits that support sustainable urban development across North Al Batinah Governorate.
Nama said the project reflects its broader investment strategy to develop modern, efficient and sustainable infrastructure capable of anticipating future demand and supporting economic and social growth across the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
